The Indian Space Research Organisation (ISRO) is making significant strides in promoting the participation of private sector companies in the production and launch of the Small Satellite Launch Vehicle (SSLV).
Recognizing the potential of the private sector, ISRO is actively seeking collaborations with private companies to manufacture and launch SSLV rockets. By involving private entities in SSLV production, ISRO aims to boost indigenous manufacturing capabilities while also promoting innovation and efficiency.
To further optimize the launch process, ISRO plans to utilize mobile launch pads for SSLV missions. This approach allows for multiple launches to be carried out within a short timeframe. By deploying mobile launch pads, ISRO can swiftly transport and set up the SSLV at various launch sites, enabling quick launch preparations and minimizing downtime. The introduction of mobile launch pads is expected to significantly enhance launch frequency, accommodating the "launch-on-demand" concept that the SSLV is designed for.
ISRO has already secured orders for 15 SSLV launch vehicles, highlighting the strong demand for this versatile rocket. With its readiness to launch, the SSLV is capable of delivering satellites on demand, providing a swift and efficient solution for satellite deployment. The SSLV's launch-on-demand capability aligns well with the requirements of commercial satellite operators and the emerging small satellite industry, which often demand flexible and timely access to space.
The SSLV is a cutting-edge rocket developed by ISRO specifically designed for the launch of small satellites. Configured with three solid stages weighing 87 t, 7.7 t, and 4.5 t, the SSLV stands 34 m tall with a diameter of 2 m and a lift-off mass of 120 t. The rocket can efficiently deliver Mini, Micro, or Nanosatellites weighing between 10 to 500 kg to a 500 km orbit.
